Satellite 4 Digital Health to fast-track UN SDGs

Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd has emerged finalist in Healthy Lives - Assisted Living, Robotics category under the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) Impact in Society Awards  organised by prestigious IET. The award won aligns with the IET Societal Challenges, where Nigcomsat, Futminna (Host University) and partners presented evidences that provided measurable societal impact in the area of Telemedicine via NIGCOMSAT-1R Communications Satellite to fast-track UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 especially in rural and undeserved communities led by Dr. Lasisi Salami LAWAL . The Telemedicine research project won the Institution of Engineering and Technology's 2023 Impact-in-Society Award for Healthy Lives, assisted living & robotics category on 28th  March 2023.

Our research project titled “Tele-medicine as a Panacea to Medical Tourism in Africa leveraging Communication Satellite Technologies” was one of the winning proposals in the international research competition organized by the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Connect2Recover initiative; the first ever international research competition organised by the ITU. The competition which received 307 entries from 80 countries across the five continents had 15 outstanding winners which includes our research project.
